Summer is here and with it comes all of the activities that we love! Fishing, Swimming, Biking, Horseback Riding, Hiking, Canoeing, Golfing, Fair-Going, Shopping, Theater-Going - all of it is just waiting outside the door! We have a lot of weddings and other special events this summer, so we will be busy - but you don't have to be - in between the events the days are slow and the Adirondackchairs are beckoning!
Manchester Antique and Classic Car Show June 13 & 14
If you love cars this is a great show to attend or show your baby at! This weekend we are loosening up on our two-night minimum rule, so if you can only come for one night that is ok with us, BUT if you can spend two nights, then we have a great special for you:

Ethan Allen Colonial Fair June 20 & 21 - Bennington
The Ethan Allen Colonial Fair brings together historical societies, places and crafts for create a family atmosphere and experience. Exhibitions and demonstrations entertain children of all ages. Period song and dance, musical instruments, games and farm and home crafts are presented. The 25th Continental Regiment is encamped on the grounds of the Fair and presents a two-day battle. This is a really fun event for the whole family!

Old Fashioned 4th of July
You just need to be in the country for the 4th of July, there is no doubt that you can't get that relaxed feeling of an old fashioned4th of July anywhere else. Come and spend it with us! Thursday, July 2 the Vermont Symphony Orchestra is playing outdoors in the Hildene Meadowlands, a wonderful spot for a picnic and some beautiful music. On Saturday there are festivals all over - Bennington Parade and Fireworks, Stratton Bluegrass Festival, Manchester Fireworks - take your pick!

Patriotic Pastimes
Southwest Vermont, from Bennington to the Manchester area, played a very significant role in the winning of the revolutionary war. Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys planned their capture of Fort Ticonderoga (the first Colonists’ victory) from here and defeated the British in the Battle of Bennington which kept supplies from the British who then surrendered at Saratoga (NY) which was the turning point in the War.
Surprisingly, Vermont also has many ties to the Civil War. For instance, Vermont lost more people in the Civil War than any other state in the Union. Every generation of Abraham Lincoln’s descendents lived or visited the Manchester and Dorset areas. Some Lincolns were interred here. Tombstones for Gettysburg came from this area. And more.

There are not many inns with frontage on the famous Battenkill River, and we are one of them! Experience fly fishingas it used to be - a beautiful river, native (unstocked) trout, a private guide service, hearty meals, and elegant accommodations! Our local guide has been fishing the Battenkill all his life - he is a wonderful teacher and has incomparable knowledge of the river and the fishing!

Kids Stay Free!
The trails are squishy, the alpacas are lonely, our Kid's room awaits! We have a lot of great rooms for families and kid-friendly food as well.
