Diversions

Between breakfast and dinner, many guests have a wonderful day without ever leaving the Inn. On any day, at any time of the year, there are so many things to do...

Starting the day off right

  • Sleep-in -- breakfast is served until 9:30!
  • Read the WHOLE paper

Heading Out

  • Take a stroll around the Inn and take time to notice all the wonderful things you can find here:
  • Flower gardens and wild flowers
  • Songbirds, squirrels and chipmunks
  • Fishponds with goldfish and frogs
  • Llamas and rabbits
  • Beautiful views
  • Go for a hike, or just a walk
  • The Inn's 150 acres include many woodland trails of various lengths and destinations -- ask for a trail map at the front desk
  • Take a walk down River Road -- it's a quiet, level dirt road that starts at the Inn and runs along the Battenkill for 10 miles. River Road passes by BOTH of Norman Rockwell's homes and one of the most beautiful covered bridges in Vermont.
  • Enjoy the winter weather:
  • Take a cross-country skiing or snowshoeing tour around the property
  • Build a snowman or have a friendly snowball fight
  • Take a sled ride down the llama pasture
  • Relax on the Battenkill River
  • Go fishing - the Battenkill is a world renowned trout stream and heaven for fly-fishermen
  • Go tubing - the local favorite way to cool off is to float down the river in an oversized innertube. This minimalist boating is guaranteed to put you in 'touch' with the river!
  • Have a canoe or kayak delivered to the inn and go for a float!

Winding Down

  • Take in the view from the front lawn
  • The vista over the village of Arlington to the Green Mountains across the valley from one of the Adirondack chairs on the front lawn is unsurpassed. Bring a book, a drink or a friend and enjoy!
  • Enjoy a drink and the warm company of your fellow guests in the Inn's small tavern or around the fireplace in the living room
  • Play a game
  • The enclosed porch is a favorite spot for all kinds of games -- jigsaw puzzles, cards, checkers, chess, backgammon...
  • Read a book
  • Bring that book you've wanted to read for so long, or pick one from our own truly eclectic selection
